I wasn't feeling "all that" this morning so decided to head to the local beach for a blast of sea air and to clear my thoughts...
Inspired by Michelle Lucas's passion for creative reflection and encouragement of movement-based reflection as a legitimate alternative to journalling, I followed the following prompts for a "kinaesthetic" reflection and felt restored and at peace as a consequence.
Why not have a go yourself....
1. Set an intention – Name the focus for this walk.
For example: “I’m reflecting on ____ ”.
2. Arrive in your body – Walk for one minute noticing feet, breath and posture.
Let your attention settle into the rhythm of moving.
3. Savour – What’s going well that you want to savour?
Walk for five minutes. Say thoughts aloud or record a voice note.
4. Unpick – What’s been tricky that you want to unpick?
Walk for five minutes. Notice where you feel tension or ease as clues.
5. Prepare – What’s coming up that you want to prepare for?
Walk for five minutes. Picture the scenario and the first useful step.
6. Resource – How are you managing your self-care?
Slow your pace for two minutes. Ask: “What will keep me resourced (today/this week, etc)”.
7. Capture – Finish with 3-2-1.
Three observations.
Two insights.
One next action you will take today.
