When we feel fatigued most of us focus on sleep problems. But proper relaxation takes many forms. Emma Beddington spent a week exploring the concept of different types of rest beyond just sleep.
The seven distinct categories of rest tested include:
Physical - Passive activities like sleeping and napping, as well as active forms like yoga and stretching to restore the body.
Mental - Giving your brain a break through techniques like meditation, mindfulness, or simply taking time away from cognitive tasks.
Social - Spending time with positive and supportive people, or taking a break from social interactions to recharge.
Creative - Engaging with art and nature, or taking a break from creative tasks to rekindle inspiration and imagination.
Emotional - Expressing and dealing with your feelings, and finding ways to reduce emotional stress and recharge emotionally.
Sensory - Reducing sensory overload from screens, noise, and other stimuli by disconnecting and enjoying quiet environments.
Spiritual - Connecting with something greater than oneself through activities like prayer, meditation, or community service.
