How the body keeps the score on trauma

Dr Besslel van der Kolk's book The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma is firmly in my top 10 most thought-provoking reads of all time.

The book reflects a lifetime of practice and research exploring the profound impact of trauma on both the mind and body, revealing how traumatic experiences can alter brain function and physiology.

The author emphasizes the importance of holistic and body-centered approaches to healing, such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), yoga, neurofeedback, and creative arts, in addition to traditional therapies.

For me, the book provided deep insights into the mechanisms of trauma while offering practical and innovative treatment strategies. The author advocates for a trauma-informed approach to mental health care founded on a body of research-based evidence, which has proven to help both survivors and practitioners understand and address the complex nature of trauma.
